It is fully compatible with both Windows and OS X and gets past the many limitations of FAT32 (the most annoying of which is the 4 GB file size limit). ![]() To get around that problem, hold down the Command + R keys when you turn on your Mac and let go when the logo appears. You can use either macOS or Windows to format the drive into exFAT, as its equally usable by both platforms, regardless of which formatted it in the first place. If youre running the latest version of OS X Snow Leopard, you should format your external drive using the exFAT file system. If you want to format your Mac's system drive, you can't do that when the Mac is running normally because the drive is in use by the operating system. If you work on a Mac computer and need to read or write files from HDD, SSD or a flash drive formatted under Windows, you need Microsoft NTFS for Mac by Paragon. Usually, you'll want ExFAT, which is the default for the MacOS. Select the drive you want to format and then choose “Erase.”Ĥ. At the top of the window, click "Erase."ĥ.
